The exhibition Grow Ups opens in Shizuoka, Japan on Saturday, March 6.
On Saturday, March 6 at 13:00 the center for creative communications will open the exhibition
'Grow Ups': an exhibition of eleven young Dutch artists whose work moves between mature art
and childlike fantasy.
Grow Ups will be opened by Ms Omori ( curator CCC ) and presented by curator Renée Reijnders.
The title Grow Ups indicates that the art contains strong influences from the artists’ childhood
and adolescence. Mature themes come together with visual references to toys, television cartoons,
comic magazines and video games of American and Japanese origin.
Participating artists:

Pepin, Ingrid de Lugt, Wayne Horse, Mark Verhaagen, Leendert Masselink / studio illurama, Bjorn

Parts of this exhibition were shown at CORROSIA! in 2008. On invitation of CCC the work is
exhibited following a curational contest.
Grow ups is curated by Renée Reijnders. Renée is going to Japan to build up the exhibition.
The accompanying text is written by art historian Marinus de Ruiter.
Next to the exhibition Grow ups the film The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb from director Dave
Borthwick will be shown on the opening day.

MAMA starts 2010 with an international group exhibition on the rainbow. In Don't Worry, Be Happy
this universal symbol of hope, happiness and freedom acquires a dark edge.
Various groups of people claim the rainbow as a symbol of their ideals. Jehovah's plant a flag
with a rainbow in their garden featuring the text "There is hope", Greenpeace roams the oceans on
their Rainbow Warrior and South Africa calls itself the Rainbow Nation. However, a symbol is nur-
tured because things are not yet as they should be. The search for the pot of gold at the end of
the rainbow continues.
Don't Worry, Be Happy includes the work of fourteen artists. American icons Jeff Soto and Richard
Colman exhibit in the Netherlands for the first time. Many works are produced especially for this
exhibition. On January 22nd the show opens with work by Wayne Horse, Merijn Hos, Ola Vasiljeva
and Abner Preis amongst others.

The Marigolds

My book is back from the printer, it's a 64 page hardcover book that is published by Buzzworks out
of Amsterdam. Buzzworks also published my first bookBlack and White Drawings back in 2008.
The new book is entitled after my grandfathers favorite flower, the Marigold.
Over the last few years I noticed that a lot of shapes that I use in my artworks, like the stone,
fruit and flower shapes have a strong resembalance to my grandparents garden.
Also the colors and even the shoe workshop in the back of the garden seem to be big infuences as
I'am obsessed with shoes in my work.
The book contains a selection of my analogue, non comercial work of the last two years or so and
is designed by Helen Hennekes
The book wil be available at better bookstores soon and there will be a book signing event at the
American Book Center in Amsterdam at Saturday the 23 of January from 15:00 - 17:00

I was invited by Studio Banana from Madrid Spain to take part of an
illustration exhibition called NOMONOTONO. Here a picture of the
show and a review by christian fernandez Mirón and Andra Piscaer.
NOMONOTONO AN EXHIBITION OF ILLUSTRATIONS
Curated by Christian Fernández Mirón and Andra Piscaer
At first Nomonotono was concieved as a simple illustration exhibition.
But besides gathering wonderful images of artists both emerging and
reknown, something special was required: each illustrator should prepare
a piece of graphic art in which one colour was clearly dominant. A simple
chromatic premise for both artists and audience. As for the theme, style,
dimensions and technique we insisted on each artist taking the project to
their own grounds. The result is a rich repertoire of pieces grouped in
the gradient that forms Nomonotono.

Amsterdam and asked me to draw on there typical blackboards fo the

The Joyful Bewilderment groupshow, London
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An international group exhibition showcasing the outpourings of a
group of like minded image-makers. This exhibition can be seen as
an expression of these artists compulsion to create. Fundamentally,
the artists in the show all share an essential motivation to explore
the possibilities of enhancing everyday life by making magic from
the mundane. The works in the show utilize modest and direct means
including works in pencil, paint and ink along with photographic
works which record and celebrate everyday happenstances. All the
artworks express what could be termed a ‘hope-tinged anxiety’. As
such, in various ways, the works offer a subconscious social com-
mentary on the uncertainty of the times we are all living in.
Specifically, what comes to the fore are common concerns and a posi-
tive interest with dipping into the past and championing seemingly
long-forgotten notions such as thriftyness and a delight in the
ordinary everyday detritus of life in order to counteract the context
of a world today brimming with unwanted junk and jumble that has been
manufactured for the transitory ‘now’.

The first exhibition in Poland which presents the works of 20 leading
European and Polish artists whose art derives from broadly understood
urban art. Different attitudes, various ways, similar origins. Clas-
sical or political graffiti was a significant point for the development
of each invited guest. The fact of interfering into urban atmosphere
with egocentric tag or graphics taken from the pattern influenced the
way the artists think, act, create and share with their mature and
personal art. Those attitudes which derive from counter cultural and
alternative acts of urban activism, seize new areas of social operation
and mass culture such as graffiti, street performances, tatoos, cartoon,
typography, photography, illustration or person creation. The exhibition
does not literally transfer street art into sterile space of the gal-
lery but is rather an attempt to change stereotyped way of its perception,
it is the attempt to show that the barrier between high art and marginal
urban art is weak. It aims to present the inspirations, philosophy and
social dimension, crucial for this art, which reflect contemporary,
democratic tendencies to participate in culture.The violent mixture is
created by the attempt to equal working in studio and working in urban
space. This mixture will govern BWA Wrocław and the streets of Wrocław
for a month.

Sweatshop t-shirt graphics exhibition at the Graphic Design festival, Breda.

Dutch:
SweatShop is een expositie over t-shirts. Overal ter wereld worden
t-shirts gedragen. Niet alleen als vrijetijdskleding, maar ook als
bedrijfskleding, (sport)tenue en uniform. SweatShop besteedt op een
bijzondere manier aandacht aan de t-shirts. De expositie belicht de
grafische toepassing van het t-shirt. De expositieruimte van KOP is
ingericht als een grote winkel met een enorme voorraad t-shirts.
Ontwerpers over heel de wereld worden opgeroepen hun t-shirts in te
sturen, te exposeren en aan te bieden voor verkoop.

HAPPY WHEELS

Happy Wheels is the first exposure of art which celebrates the extra-
ordinary creativity and production of the culture of the street and
the two wheels. It is a question of approaching and of expressing by
the image its vision of the bicycle today or in the future one. The
exposure will take place in the Arts centre in Canteleu within the
framework of the festival of the urban cultures from the 5 to Apr 26,
2008 and will be continued with the Yaralt gallery in Rouen from the
3 to May 31, 2008.

At the funeral last friday one of his friends spoke about his A.K.A's
and one them was "Lumberjack Nickelson", I never heard him shout that
one, but I think it's brilliant. I drew the hat he was wearing the
last time I saw him.

This month I'am featured in IdN from Hong Kong, this edition is
focused on the Semiotics of Illustration and features interviews

Fruits Frais

Fruits Frais is the first concept store in Pakistan and they bought a
selection of my drawings and they have them for sale in their store.

Black and white drawings by Bfree

This weekend I received some copies of my first book "Black and white
drawings".It's a 128 page book that contains my favorite black and
white drawings of the last five years. An edition of 1500 copies prin-
ted on high quality 115 grms paper, 14,5 x 20 cm.
The book is published by Buzzworks and is for sale on their website
and in selected stores around Europe soon, (12,95,- Euro).
I would like to thank Jeroen van Goor for writing the preface and
Helen Hennekes for doing the design.

I Thought This Was Forever.

There are drawings and a picture of my show "I thought this was
forever" at Subaquatica in madrid in the selected work section,
I did 30 framed drawings (30x40) and 5 framed drawings (60x80).
The exhibition is still up till the 12th of may. I have designed
a t-shirt and little magazine for the show, 32 pages full color,
only available at Subaquatica.
